Norton Audubon Hospital Garage
The Norton Audubon Parking Garage Project was a reconstruction and rehabilitation project that started in the spring of 2024 and will be completed in the spring of 2025. Schnell Contractors, Inc. was selected to repair both the precast parking structure and the existing post tension parking garage. Both structures, EDT & Orange Garage had extensive structural concrete repairs. The work scope included structural concrete repairs consisting of over15,000/SF of vertical, horizontal & overhead concrete repairs both partial and full depth. Other repair items included post tension repairs, bearing pad replacement, along with selective demolition and replacement of load bearing columns and beams. Also included installation of 500/LF of new fire rated expansion joints, surface cleaning, 120,000/SF of corrosion inhibitor and a protective urethane traffic membrane system and new line striping.
Columbia Theatre
The Columbia Theater built circa 1927 is located in Paducah KY. The Broadway facade was designed of glazed clay terra cotta units. Surface spalling of the glazed finish and deterioration of units caused for the replacement of many of the original units. Areas of glaze scaling were removed and terra cotta deglazed with Edison coatings, all mortar joints were repointed 100% with new mortar to match original.
Humana Waterside
Schnell Contractors, Inc. was selected to complete the masonry restoration on both the Waterside & Clocktower Buildings for Humana in Downtown Louisville. The Waterside Building celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2024 was the largest of the two buildings. The focus of the repairs was the structural stabilization of the masonry facade and waterproofing of both buildings. Extensive scaffolding was used to complete the masonry repairs on this project. The restoration of repointing, rebuilding sections of masonry, facade single brick replacement, concrete patching and concrete coatings, to completely rebuilding the parapet walls at the 12th floor. The Humana Clocktower Building consisted of masonry repointing, brick replacement and rebuilding sections of masonry wall, installation of new structural masonry anchors, painting of steel supports, removal of existing doorways and installation of new windows storefronts with new footings, and limestone veneer to match the existing facade. The existing clocktower had new structural wooden supports installed on the interior of the structure and the Turret clock refurbished with slate roof repairs.
LGE Hydroelectric Dam
Schnell Contractors, Inc was selected to perform upstream and downstream vertical dam facade repairs. Approximately 10,000 SF of vertical spalling was patched at depths of 4″-10.” Extensive scaffolding accessed by barge was designed. Barge anchorage was further designed to fluctuate with the daily changes in water elevation.
Additional repairs involving replacement of deteriorating reinforcing bars and epoxy injection of structural cracks were added to the work scope.
This project duration was 24 months.
AAK – Hydro Building
Schnell Contractors, Inc performed masonry restoration of multiple buildings in the AAK plant. The focus of the projects was to stabilize the multi wythe masonry walls that were severely deteriorated due to severe oxide jacking. The masonry façade was stabilized utilizing multiple types of structural anchors, replacement of deteriorated shelf angles, and complete rebuilding of sections of deteriorated masonry. As per the photograph, in many locations across the AAK plant, sections of masonry walls were removed to allow for structural repairs to the deteriorated steel beams and columns within the façade. Structural steel repairs included beam replacement, stiffener reinforcement plate installation, blast cleaning and zinc coating of deteriorated steel reinforcement.
Nelson County Courthouse
Schnell Contractors was awarded the Exterior Restoration of the Nelson County Courthouse located in Bardstown, Kentucky in June 2018. The Courthouse is a historic building, originally constructed in 1891. Our work consisted of exterior cleaning, re-pointing of mortar joints, and rebuilding of isolated masonry areas.
The Meyer Building
The Meyer Building, located at 624 W. Main Street in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, was originally constructed in 1890. The historical cast-iron façade was constructed of brick with decorative red sandstone window trim arch features. The project consisted of restoration of all deteriorated sandstone patched to their original profiles using Cathedral Stone products.
Hot Fluid-Applied Waterproofing
Schnell Contractors, Inc. was hired by Empire Contractors to complete the hot fluid applied waterproofing over the occupied space connection the addition to the new arena. Schnell Contractors, Inc. has completed the first phase of the drying in the process using American Hydrotech 6125MM Waterproofing and will return in 2019 to complete the horizontal slab waterproofing once the topping slab is removed by the GC.
Republic Bank Garage
Currently, Schnell Contractors is performing Post Tension repair at Republic Bank Garage in Louisville, Kentucky.
